It's Not Too Late To Help!

The Brasil family helped with Project 9/11, and so can you.

Yesterday, my family took part in . A group of students are the organizers. Their goal is to have 911 people volunteer one hour of their time in the 'Boro. The Brasils were there and so were many of you, but they still need your help.

Our goal was to clean up the trash around certain streets around town. We all met at AHS. Then we broke into groups, there were five groups of Attleboro peeps. After being given our street assignment our teenage team captains gave us our instructions. It was a little weird taking instructions from a bunch of teenagers. My three children, Christopher, 12, Molly, 9, and Mathew, 5, thought it was great I had to follow instructions from teens.

Riverbank Road was our assignment, so we met at . While we waited for our teenage captain's to arrive, our family and another family cleaned the side of the garden. When our captains arrived, the large group was split into two smaller groups. One group walked along the field next to Willett School cleaning as they went. Our group was tasked with the area along the river towards the Balfour Park and the parking lot.

Time to Clean the 'Boro

We cleaned the area beautifully, working for an hour and a half. The 11 of us cleaned along the water, cleaned under and around the ramp and steps to the bridge leading to the park. Then we cleaned near the Dance Factory and across the street. By the time we finished we had filled two trash bags. As we gathered our water bottles and bags, I watched two teenage girls walk up. They proceeded to walk to the stairs that lead into the park, then I watched as they dropped a wrapper. Seriously? You've got to be kidding me, I thought. Molly walked over and picked it up.

I was so proud of my kids. Not one complaint came out of their mouths. This was a great way to commerate the tragedies of 9/11. We were so glad to be able to give back to our community. Sunday is the start of a whole week of voluneteer opportunities. Please check out for more ways to be a part of this amazing project. The group still needs 200 volunteers to reach their goal of 911. So, please find it in your hearts to spare and hour for a great cause.
