The Sad Tail of Stubz

Donations are down and intake is up at the Attleboro Animal Shelter, which is run by volunteers from the Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter.

Another animal in desperate need arrived at our doorstep at the A 10 to 12-week-old kitten now named Stubz was found at Birchwood Trailer Park and brought to us needing urgent medical care.

At first glance we were not sure exactly what type of injury we were looking at, whether it was a prolapse or a massacred tail. All Volunteers immediately knew is that Stubz needed our help! Stubz was brought to Central Ave Veterinary for medical care. It was then we realized we were looking at a Kitten who clearly got stuck in a sticky situation and part of her tail was torn off.

Due to the severity of this injury maggots had infested the open area and were feeding off Stubz's mangled tail. The poor kitten was also infested with fleas and remarkably she remained calm and continued to purr, I think she knew she was rescued!

There's good news. Stubz will undergo surgery on Monday to remove the remainder of her tail and clear up any underlying infections. Once Stubz is done with surgery and given the green light to go home, she will then go into foster care for all her post-op care with Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter volunteers.

The City of Attleboro has no ordinance in place for cats, which means the responsibility lies solely on Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter (FAAS).  It is up to FAAS to care for all the cats that reside at the Shelter and in foster care, from medical needs to daily feedings and cleaning right on thru to adoptions! FAAS is a 501c3 Non-Profit run solely by volunteers who open their heart and home and devote their time to the animals in need.
