Mayor, Fire, Police, 9/11 Families to Take Part in Sept. 11 Memorial Service at Local Church

The parents of two local 9/11 victims along with the City’s Mayor, Police and Fire Chiefs will be among participants taking part in a non-denominational Memorial Service

The Fire and Police Department honor guards and Fire Department Bagpipe Band along with a contingent from the Delaney Council, Knights of Columbus will assemble in a march prior to the service, being held to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the tragedy..

Speakers at the service will include Capt. Keith Jackson of the Attleboro Fire Dept. and retired Pawtucket Fire Lt. Robert Howe, who both participated in 9/11 relief efforts, and Mayor Donald R. Grebien. Police Chief Paul King and Fire Chief William Sisson will also participate in the ceremonies. Also taking part in the service will be Bill and Ellen Goodchild, the parents of Lynn Goodchild, and Patrick and Margaret Nassaney, the parents of Shawn Nassaney.

Lynn Goodchild, of Attleboro, and Shawn Nassaney, of Pawtucket were flying together aboard one of the planes that crashed into the World Trade Center in New York City on Sept. 11, 2001. The former County Street bridge spanning Attleboro and Pawtucket was renamed in their honor when it was reopened in July.

Representing military families will be Nicole Foster, whose husband, Army Staff Sgt. Adam Foster, is currently serving in Afghanistan, while Capt. Richard LeMay will represent rescue workers.

The service will include an opening prayer by the Rev. William Shaw, pastor of Union Baptist Church, and a benediction by Fr. Richard Roy, pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, in Attleboro. Other elements of the service will include songs, a lighting of candles and a remembrance for all the victims who died in the 9/11 tragedy.

The memorial service will close with the singing of  “Let There Be Peace On Earth.” The service is open to the public.
