FREE PROSTATE CANCER SCREENING TO BE OFFERED AT STURDY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Free prostate cancer exams, which include a PSA blood test and clinical exam, will be offered to men on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 from 6 – 8 p.m. at Sturdy Memorial Hospital.  Dr. Raymond Paul-Blanc, a board certified urologist, will perform the screenings, which will take place in the Oncology Suite located adjacent to the Hospital’s Emergency Care Center. Exams are confidential and registration is limited.  To make an appointment, call the Hospital at 508-236-7015. The deadline for appointments is Friday, March 16, 2012.

Who Should Attend:  Males, age 50 or older, who have never had a prostate cancer screening before or have a family history of prostate cancer. All men over age 55 are at risk for developing prostate cancer. Higher-risk groups include African-American men and all men with first degree relatives (brother, father, or son) who have prostate cancer.

Prostate cancer is the most common type of cancer in men, other than skin cancer, according to the American Cancer Society.  Doctors say the disease can be present for years before symptoms occur, but early detection can save a man's life.
