Attleboro Historic Preservation Society
March is National Women's Month. As part of its ongoing mission to preserve, restore, promote and develop the historical assets of our city, the Attleboro Historic Preservation Society will present a program spotlighting women who have played a significant role in the history of Attleboro. Presenter Kelly Fox, will discuss women of distinction, including Helen Metcalf, an English teacher on the faculty of Attleboro High School at its beginning in 1896. Miss Metcalf's name lives on with the presentation each year of scholarship prizes to deserving graduating students. In addition, Ms Fox will discuss the contributions of Brenda Reed, and Judy Robbins, former mayors of the city, as well as those of Mary Johnson Bailey Lincoln, an influential teacher and cookbook author of the early twentieth century and Irene Davey, one of Attleboro's oldest citizens and Massachusetts oldest Veteran.
This program will be presented at the monthly meeting of the Attleboro Historic Preservation Society at 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2011. It will be held at the Attleboro Industrial Museum at 42 Union Street, Attleboro, MA. The public is invited to attend. The program is supported by the Attleboro Cultural Council
