Tree Lightings, Theater and Biggest Sock!

Local area towns are lighting up the lights.

This past week, my friend's Facebook status read, "waiting for Santa to arrive by boat." It got me thinking. He's everywhere we go and has all sorts of transportation to arrive in, however most local towns are transporting the ole jolly man by fire truck to their annual tree lighting. This weekend, Cinderella will have her own party and see if the world's biggest sock makes it to the Guinness book.

Barrington Tree Lighting
Where/When: Barrington Town Hall, 283 County Road, Barrington, RI - Saturday, Dec. 3, at 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Why Go: 
Spend the afternoon going on a train ride and take pictures with Santa. Then make a craft, frost some ginger bread cookies in the senior center. Then head on over to the the town hall steps at 6 p.m. hear some holiday chorus until Santa arrives to help in lighting the tree.  
Pricing: Train Rides: $1

Cinderella's Christmas
Where/When: Kaleidoscope Theatre, Scottish Rite Auditorium, 2115 Broad Street, Cranston, RI - Saturday, Dec. 3, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
Why Go: 
This famous fairytale is loaded with beautiful songs, costumes, magic and lots of audience participation.  A Christmas twist that makes it fun for everyone of all ages. www.kaleidoscopechildrenstheatre.com 
Pricing: $12 per person

The World's Biggest Sock
Where/When: Rhode Island Convention Center, 1 Sabin Street, Providence, RI - Friday, Dec. 2, at 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Why Go: 
Be there as Guinness measures the sock for a world record. Special appearance by Big Nazo, beer samples by Guinness, music by King Friday and sword swallowing performed by Matt the Knife. www.riconvention.com 
Pricing: Advance tickets: $30 each or $50 per couple, Day of event: $40 each or $75 per couple 

Swansea Living Tree Lighting
Where/When: Housing Authority's Martin Court, 100 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea, MA - Wednesday, Dec. 8, 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
Why Go: 
The arrival of Santa Claus by fire truck, local boy scouts will sing Christmas carols and refreshments will be served.
