Husband of Norton Town Clerk Arrested on Suspicion of Her Attempted Murder

James T. Sicard, 44, of Norton, was arrested Thursday after an investigation stemming from a disturbance at his residence earlier that day. He is accused of attempting to murder his wife, Norton Town Clerk Danielle Sicard.

"The victim reported that Sicard twisted her neck several times during the altercation, prevented her from leaving and attempted to suffocate her with a towel," Norton Police Lt. Todd Jackson said. "After the struggle, she was able to leave the residence and call police."

Danielle Sicard was treated at Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro and Rhode Island Hospital for her injuries. She suffered bruises to her arms, neck and face. She was later released and appeared in the Attleboro District Court on Friday to testify as a witness.

"She is out of the hospital and is fine now," Jackson said.

Mansfield Football Player Admits to Assaulting Student

Mansfield High School student and football captain Alex Ruddy admitted in Attleboro District Court this week to assaulting another student with his belt, according to The Sun Chronicle.

The peal-bargain deal, in which Ruddy admitted to committing misdemeanor assault and battery, will allow him to return to school.

The case was continued without a finding for one year with probation and will be dismissed if Ruddy is able to stay out of trouble.

Teen Among Winners in Seekonk Election

Evan Berwick, 18, became one of Massachusetts' youngest elected officials when he was one of two people to earn seats on the Seekonk School Committee Monday in the town's local election. Berwick graduated last year from Seekonk High School. The other school committee election winner was Kyle Rose.

Winning the three-man race for one seat on the board of selectmen was Mike Brady, who served on the board from 2005 to 2011.
