Tornado Watch Issued for New England

According to the National Weather Service, severe thunderstorms should reach the Seekonk area by 4 to 5 p.m., creating conditions ripe for tornados.

The National Weather Service located in Taunton, MA has issued a special weather statement and tornado watch for the New England region starting at 4 p.m.

According to the advisory, a cold front from New York could result in thunderstorms this afternoon and into the early evening, with damaging winds and large hail being the primary threats. The greatest chance of these strong storm systems will be in the more inland areas of the state. The weather is predicted to worsen near Seekonk at approximately 4 p.m.

Officials are requesting trained weather spotters to watch out for conditions that "reach reportable criteria" and contact the National Weather Service.
