Region Roundup: Seekonk Appoints Police Chief, Alleged Theo Epstein Stalker Arrested

Here is a look at what's happening in the region.

In a move that was expected by Seekonk Town Hall observers, the board of selectmen voted 4-0 Wednesday night to appoint Capt. Craig Mace as the police department's new chief. Mace will begin his new job March 16, the day after Chief Ronald Charron retires.

Mace has served in the department for 27 years, including the last seven as the second-in-command. His appointment was recommended by Charron and Town Administrator Pam Nolan, who said it would be "an almost seamless transition."

A Canton woman who had to be removed from the Holy Name School in West Roxbury after showing up unannounced is also a suspect in stalking former Red Sox General Manager Theo Epstein. Kathleen Kearney, 45, was charged last summer with felony stalking and criminal trespassing after she allegedly flew from Boston to Chicago to look for Epstein at his home and at Wrigley Field, the Chicago Tribune reported.

Mansfield Family Receives National Attention After Photo Goes Viral

When the children of Mansfield resident Ryan Cordell asked if they could get a new puppy on the condition that a picture of them on Facebook asking for one got a million likes, he didn't expect that it would only take 13 hours to reach the goal.

The photo, which says "Hi world, we want a puppy! Our dad said we could get one if we get 1 million likes!" has been liked almost 1.7 million times on Facebook as of Jan. 18. The popularity of the photo has turned the story into an Internet sensation and has even caught the attention of the national media.
