Region Roundup: Kennedy Visits Attleboro, Grist Mill Reopening Date, and Patriot Place Expansion

Kennedy Tours Walton & Lonsbury Site Tuesday

Congressman Joe Kennedy III was in Attleboro Tuesday afternoon to tour the Walton & Lonsbury site on North Ave.

The site was recently put on the Federal government's superfund priority list because of the extensive chemical cleanup required, and the years of research and additional work required to ensure environmental damage inflicted by the former chrome plant is fully complete.

Grist Mill in Seekonk Reaches Tentative Reopening Date

The Grist Mill Tavern was set ablaze one year ago when a fruit truck caught fire after hitting the building, but owner Greg Esmay said they’re finishing rebuilding the building and are looking to reopen in October.

“It’s our one-year anniversary but at least we’ve got a building again, so it’s getting there,” he said. “I ain’t saying anything more because it just seems to take forever.”

Planning Board Approves Patriot Place Expansion

A new expansion at Patriot Place is closer to reality after the planning board voted to approve the project last week.

The 5.5 acre expansion, located in a parking lot near the Renaissance Inn,  will feature a CVS, a quick-serve restaurant, and a 122-room hotel.

Franklin Street Intruder Foiled by Senior Citizen

Over the weekend, an Attleboro man attempting to break into a home was stopped when a 67-year old man fought him off.

Police responded to the incident on June 30 after the man's wife called 911 around 4:20 a.m. When they arrived at the Franklin Street home, they found the eldery owner of the home attempting to keep the intrudor out.
