Poll: Should Columbus Day Be Celebrated?

We want your thoughts on the federal holiday.

Today is Columbus Day, and across the nation, scores of Italians are celebrating the memory of the historic figure and his ties to their heritage. Most schools and public offices are closed for the day, while communities across the area hold special observances. These include parades on Federal Hill and in Newport.

But the day isn't without controversy. Some Americans argue that Christopher Columbus shouldn't be celebrated at all, given his participation in the slave trade and other reported acts of cruelty.

We want to know what you think: should Columbus Day be a holiday in America? Vote in our poll and share your thoughts in the comments section below.
