Plenty to do During Winter and February Staycation in Attleboro

It's never too early to plan your winter staycation.

Do you have cabin fever? With back-to-back storms dumping several feet of snow over the last few weeks, most parents are busy looking for activities to keep their children busy. Whether it is crafts, sports or even a play group, you don't have to look far because there is a variety of events right here in Attleboro. Local organizations are providing ways to keep your children busy and minds active, especially during school vacation (Feb. 21-25).  Get out your planner. 

The Attleboro Arts Museum is having winter art classes for children 5 and older. This is an enrichment program to let the little artist express themselves. If they are not yet 5, the museum encourages a tour of the museum. Here is a peek at some of its current programs:

During February vacation the art museum will hold an additional children’s art class for ages 6-9. This will begin on the Tuesday, Feb. 22, and end on Friday, Feb. 25. Classes run  from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. daily. "This is an affordable option for parents to keep their children busy during February break," Attleboro Arts Museum Staffer Abby Rovaldi said. The has a lot ongoing for the children ages 0 and up. Why not bring your child to weekly story time? The story time is free and the only requirement is that parents need to register their child in advance by calling the library at 508-222-7820 or sending an e-mail to attleborokids@sailsinc.org

  • Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 10a.m. Music Together for children 5 and under with caretakers. Presented by Gwyn Marini.
  • Tuesday, Feb. 22 at 2 p.m. Games, Games, Games for children in grades 1-8. The children are asked to bring in games to play and the library will pair them up with other children in which to play. 
  • Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. Reading Buddies for children preschool age 3 and up will be placed with older students for reading fun.
  • Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 p.m. Mad Scientist Night for children age 5 and up along with their families.
  • Thursday, Febr. 24 at 2 p.m.-4 p.m.  Writing workshop for kids in grades 5-8

Finally, the Attleboro YMCA continuously provides ways to keep children of any age busy. The Y allows residents to enroll children in Y programs whether or not they are member. Families are required to pay more as non-members so why not get a membership and keep those classes going?

In addition to their regularly-scheduled classes the YMCA of Attleboro has put together a February vacation schedule. Here are some highlights of those programs.

  • Tuesday, Feb. 22-Thursday, Feb. 24 the Downtown and Pleasant Street (TI) locations will have Lil’ Kid Fun Week for ages 3-6 from 9:30a.m.-noon. It will be a preschool themed camp that only requires participants to bring a snack. If that is not enough time, add on the afternoon from noon-2 p.m.
  • Monday, Feb. 21-Friday, Feb. 25 from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. the North Main Street branch will host School Vacation Club for grades Kindergarten to eighth grade. It will be a fun-filled day with games, crafts, tumbling, and more. This day will require a snack, lunch and water.
  • Monday, Feb. 21-Friday, Feb. 25  the Pleasant Street Branch will host School Vacation Week Extravaganza for grades 1-5 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. It will be an age-appropriate week of swimming, sports, games, crafts, movies and community service projects.
