Patch Picks: Great 'Stay-Vacations'

Want to get away from it all but not go too far?

Don't want to spend a lot of time getting there but want a break from the real world?  It could be a romantic date with the one you love or some family fun or mom's rertreat. Check out some ideas for one-day trips.

Five Bridges Inn, Rehoboth, MA: If you truly want to get away, you will love this local place. It's nestled in 80 acres of woodlands. You can tour the facility before booking your stay. Most people that stay here are repeat customers. There are trails and a fitness center where you can take mediation and yoga classes. You can check their website for more information.

Six Flags Amusement Park, Agawam, MA: With it's water park, rides, shows, and easy to find discounts, this fun park is a perfect place for families! It can be done in a day, but if you want to rent a local hotel room, you can come back or maybe visit the Basketball Hall of Fame while you are in the Springfield area.

Storyland/Santa's Village, New Hampshire: I speak from experience-this is such a great trip to take with younger kids. Storyland has been around a long time and is still a great place. A little further north in New Hampshire is Santa's Village, which is similar, but it's Christmas! There are some hotels that give you special packages for the parks.

Naragansett Beach, Rhode Island: Beautiful beaches and an area for every budget. Plus, there is a ferry from Point Judith, which is a few miles from Scarborough Beach, that takes you to Block Island. Here you can do lots of walking, bike riding, and touring around.

Boston, Mass: There is always something to do in our state capital. On a nice sunny day, you can go ride the swan boats and walk through Back Bay and do some shopping, and maybe take a 'duck tour'. It is a bus/boat vehicle that takes you around the sights of Beantown. Quincy Market is always buzzing with outdoor free entertainement and bustling with it's shops and restaurants. On a rainy day, you can visit the Museum of Science, Museum of Fine Arts, The Children's Museum or maybe take in a play.
