Patch Picks: Are You Ready for Summer Camp?

Whether they like sports, nature, dinosaurs or the ocean, there is a place for all our kids to go this summer.

Can't wait for the warm weather? Start planning for it now. Let the water slides, card games and camp activities commence.

  • Half-day programs are for pre-school aged kids while the full-day programs go to up age 15. There are different themes like "Luau week" to "Medievel week" and campers can chose activites from  gymnastics to theater. You will find something for all your children. Sessions run all through the summer months. There will be an Open House on May 15.  Members are charged lower rates for camp fees.
  • Camp Ramsbottom, Rehoboth, MA:  Located on Route 44, this camp is affiliation of the Boys and Girls Club of Pawtucket. Attendees of this camp must be members of the Boys & Girls Club. The annual fee is $30 for the membership. Check the programs here are for children ages 6 to 13.  They run two weeks per session from June through August. Choices in activities range from archery, basketball, horseback riding to mountain biking. There is a bus service to the camp is from convenient locations in the surrounding areas in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island.  Check out their website for more information.
  • Caratunk Wildlife Refuge, Seekonk: Caratunk is a part of Audubon Society of Rhode Island. This local sanctuary for wild life is a beautiful expanse of nature has a camp program during summer months. Ages 3 to 14 can learn about the natural world. This summer they start new themes for programs including “Dinosaur Days” where your 5 to 7 year old will be learning about dinosaurs, archeological digs and other dino activities.
  • Challenger Sports/Pawtucket Youth Soccer, Pawtucket, RIChallenger Sports has the largest and most well-known soccer camp in the country. It has come highly recommended from a friend who has already had their child experience the program firsthand. Campers get a real unique international experience with excellent coaches. The program runs from June 27 to July 1. There is a half-day and full day program.
  • Save the Bay’s Bay Camp, Rhode IslandIn Newport, Providence, Barrington, and Wickford, Grades 3 though 8 can learn more about the ocean through the splendor of Narragansett Bay. Kindergarten though third-grade will walk the beaches and learn about the various surroundings.
