High Wind Warning Issued for Attleboro Area

1. Most people are probably happy that the streak of freezing days has ended, but they may be upset that the freeze is expected to be replaced with fierce wind and rain. The National Weather Service has issued a High Wind Warning for Attleboro, Seekonk and other nearby areas that will be in effect from 9 p.m. to tomorrow at 8 a.m. The south wind could reach 28 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph.

The daytime forecast calls for cloudy skies, a high near 57 and a 40 percent chance of rain (mainly after 3 p.m.). At night, there is a 100 percent chance of rain (no wiggle room there) along with thunder and a low around 52 as well as the previously mentioned strong wind.

2. Lt. Gov. Tim Murray will be at the Attleboro Library Thursday afternoon for a roundtable discussion on veterans issues. Mayor Kevin Dumas and Veterans Agent Carl Bradshaw will also participate in the discussion. Veterans and their families are encouraged to attend the event, which will begin at 1 p.m. Veterans planning to attend should send an email to ltgovoffice@state.ma.us or call 617-725-4000.

3. The Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association recently decided to drop boys gymnastics as a high school sport. Attleboro High School is among the schools that has a program, and some people are unhappy about the decision to end the sport. An online petition has been started to reverse the decision. 4. If you are an ATV enthusiast or a hater, you will probably want to be at Attleboro City Hall Saturday at 9 a.m. A City Council committee will host a meeting about possible laws on ATVs, dirt bikes and other off-road vehicles.
