Great Escape: Away to the Cape with Flat Stanley in Tow

This mom finally cashed in a gift certificate for an escape to freedom.

Being a Mom to three kids and running a business doesn’t allow much time for a get away. My husband gave me a gift certificate to the Beach Plum Spa, which is located in the After having it for two years I finally packed my bag and cashed it in. The best thing about it is that my hubby convinced two of his friends to do the same for their wives. It was hard to coordinate three mommy's schedules, but I was determined. The plan was to spend the night at the Cape Codder and enjoy the spa treatment. Everything was set except one of my girlfriends backed out, and then there were two.

We went in September, prices are cheaper in Hyannis since it’s off season. We took separate vehicles, so that I can stay until Sunday.

No matter what kind of escape there is you cannot shake the mommy out of you. So, of course, I packed Flat Stanley to take on the great escape.

If you are a mom with elementary kids you know Flat Stanley. If not, you will. . Flat Stanley is a book about a boy who is flattened by a bulletin board and can now travel any where in the world in an envelope. One of the class projects in my Daughter’s school was to bring Stanley where ever you can. I arrived early Saturday, so I took a picture of the front of the resort with Flat Stanley.

After checking in, I scoped out the area.  There is a shopping mall just five minutes up the street and store plazas on both sides of the street. I stopped at the Home Goods for a little shopping, and I thoroughly enjoyed shopping without the kids.

Driving back to the Cape Codder I was so excited because I couldn’t wait to hit the spa. I looked through the Beach Plum Spa brochure at least 50 times, it was so hard picking the services that I wanted. They all sounded so relaxing and yummy too. Some of their services include peppermint oils and cranberry extracts. They had all different packages, but I stuck with the simple massage, and just enjoyed rest and relaxation. My friend got a cranberry scrub, she loved it and smelled like cranberries. I wish I could have spent hours in the spa to try everything, but the spa was closing and it was time for dinner.

The Cape Codder offers on-site dining, with three dining options  including: The Deck, for outdoor dining , Hearth 'n Kettle and the Grand Cru Wine Bar. We choose the Grand Cru for dinner, they had live music and a fantastic menu. I had the Chicken Saltimbocca, which is a chicken breast in wine and glazed with proscuitto and sage. My friend got the Steak au Poivre which also looked and tasted yummy, she was nice enough to let me have a bite.

Part of the great escape for me was a peaceful night of sleep, so after the great dinner and fabulous entertainment I was tired and headed for bed. I was disappointed though I wanted to take a dip in the hot tub downstairs. It’s just as well I would have felt guilty watching all the kids at the resort enjoy the wave pool, while my kids were at home.

Our room was so spacious there was a plenty of room for my friend and I. There were two double beds and a fireplace. My girlfriend was so excited that she could use her laptop at the resort because her wireless access at home hadn’t been working.

We had breakfast at for a very reasonable price. My friend packed and headed home and I set out for some additional me time. Nothing sounded better than watching a movie. It’s not very often I get to watch a "chick flick," so I took my chance. It just so happened there was a movie theatre in the shopping mall. After the movie I enjoyed a quick bite to eat at the , and after the fifth phone call from my kids asking "When are you coming home," I ended my escape and headed home, relaxed and refreshed! Hope you all have a chance to get the same R&R.
