Emergency Shelter at Hurley Middle School Opens Sunday Morning

The shelter will not provide bedding or food but a generator can provide electricity.

An emergency shelter located at the  will be opened at 6 a.m. Sunday morning, according to Fire Chief Alan Jack.

The building has a generator to retain electrical power in case the storm downs lines. The shelter won't provide food or bedding. Residents who are forced to use the shelter are reminded to bring non-perishable food items.

"We're encouraging people to stay in," the chief said.

Earlier in the day, a reverse 911 phone message alerted residents of the shelter's opening. Another message will go out tonight.
