Elevated Fire Weather Conditions Continue

Wind and dry weather have combined to create a dangerous situation.

The National Weather Service warns of elevated fire weather conditions because of continuing dry conditions combined with wind.

"East to northeast wind gusts of 10 to occasionally 20 mph combined with afternoon relative humidity values dropping to between 25 and 35 percent inland from the coast will provide elevated fire weather conditions," the NWS' website states.

Open burning season in Massachusetts ended May 1, so it is illegal to do it at this time. The danger is heightened with the current weather condition.

"The majority of wildland fires are a result of escaped fires from open burning by homeowners," the NWS says.
