Candidate for City Council: Let's End the "Trash Talking and Mud Slinging"

Candidate for Attleboro City Council, Jay DiLisio says no one wins in a mud-slinging election.

Over the past few months, some residents of Attleboro have received unsigned letters regarding various elected officials in our city. The most recent letter, “The Attleboro Observer,” falsely affiliated my campaign with this letter.

I am openly asking Jerry Chase: Are you the author of the “Attleboro Observer,” and the “Horse's [expletive] ” letters?

I ask, not to stir the pot, but to put an end to the series of demeaning anonymous letters which have dominated the 2011 campaign.

As an Attleboro resident, I am embarrassed by the author’s very poor attempt to drag everyone down to the mud-slinging level at which the author apparently feels comfortable with. As a candidate, I am enraged and offended at the the author's attempt to affiliate their trash with my  issue-based effort to help our city.

I am stating here for the record that I am in no way, shape or form, affiliated with these cowardly writings. Additionally, I pledge to each and every resident of Attleboro, not only will I not utilize any negative campaign tactic; I will include my name on everything I send out. I encourage every candidate, no matter what office they are running for, whether opposed or not, incumbent or challenger, to join me in pledging to run an issue based campaign without any attack ads or literature.

If the 2011 campaign season descends to mud-slinging and trash talking, no matter who is elected, there will be no winners. If someone comes to your door campaigning by speaking poorly of an opponent, feel free to ask what it is that they stand for, what will they do if elected? If the only thing a candidate has to offer is to speak negatively of one’s opponent(s), that candidate will probably not be an effective leader.

As I have pledged from the beginning of my , I will always be accessible to you.

Most Sincerely,

Jay DiLisio
