Attleboro Power Restoration Work to Take Several Hours

Approximately 850 National Grid customers are without power in Attleboro.

Detective Sgt. Arthur Brillon released the following statement Tuesday at 6:07 p.m. about post-Hurricane Sandy power outages in Attleboro:

Mayor Kevin Dumas, Police Chief Kyle Heagney and Fire Chief Scott Lachance met with conferred with representatives from National Grid this afternoon.  Based upon that conference, it was determined that 853 services remain without power in the city.

Areas of the city currently without electricity include the Briggs Corner area and extending down Oakhill Avenue where approximately 474 services are without power.  The second largest area affected is off Route 152 at the Seekonk line where 200 services are affected.  This area includes part of Oakhill Avenue, Knight Avenue, Frenier Avenue and Bourne Avenue.

The third largest area affected is the area of Pleasant Street extending from Starkey Avenue to the Norton line and areas to the west side of Pleasant Street.  130 homes are affected in that area.

National Grid employees are working on the feeder lines that power these areas and are re-energizing street by street after first verifying house by house that there are no downed wires.  This process can take several hours and National Grid employees will work through the night.  There is a likelihood that the areas affected will not have power this evening.

The final area suffering outages is on Slater Street from the area between Augsburg Drive and the Norton town line including Strawberry Lane.  Residents in that area should prepare for an extended loss due to the extent of damage to lines in that area as they are powered from Norton and not through Attleboro.

Residents in need of emergency police, fire or medical services should dial 911.  Residents in need of other services should call 508-223-2275.

For those who have access to the Internet, an educational video is available from National Grid.  The video highlights the way in which power is transmitted to homes.  It can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7GTUh9pR-Ag.
