The Parents of Lynn Goodchild Are Celebrating Her Life This Week

Lynn Goodchild was traveling to Maui with boyfriend Shawn Nassaney when their flight, United Airlines Flight 175, was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center.

It has been an emotional roller coaster for the parents of Lynn Catherine Goodchild. Goodchild, 25, was aboard United Airlines Flight 175 when it was hijacked and flown into the World Trade Center on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001.

In the past month, Bill and Ellen Goodchild have participated in the dedication of the old County Street bridge, to be renamed the . They have also been part of the process to bring a from the first-floor concourse of one of the World Trade Center towers to Attleboro.

They are now in a whirlwind of celebrations of Lynn's life as they prepare to join the rest of the nation and world to remember all those who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

According to Ellen Goodchild, Lynn had a passion for reaching out to others, especially to the children at the  in Attleboro. They would shop for the children at Christmas time and Lynn would enjoy delivering the gifts. When Lynn died, the Kennedy Donovan Center set up the Lynn Goodchild Memorial Fund. The funds are used to help families in need. The Goodchilds have also set up a $5,000 memorial scholarship for an student attending college. They have awarded 11 scholarships since 2002.

Lynn Goodchild grew up with many opportunities to travel and she found a kindred spirit with her boyfriend, of Pawtucket, RI, who was with her on Flight 175. "They loved to travel and had already taken three other trips that year, including one to London and another to Disney World for Nassaney's birthday," Ellen Goodchild said.

"They even invited us to come with them to Hawaii, but we declined" Bill Goodchild said.

The Goodchilds are looking forward to Saturday, Sept. 10, as they host their annual fund-raising dinner at the Tavern from Tower Square in Plainville. They are expecting 200 guests. Last year they raised $6,000 for the scholarship fund and they hope to do that again.

Sunday afternoon, the Goodchilds and Patrick and Margaret Nassaney, Shawn Nassaney's parents, will participate in a Sept. 11 Memorial Service at in South Attleboro. The service will include a lighting of candles, songs, a benediction by Fr. Richard Roy, pastor of and a remembrance for all the victimis who died on 9/11.
