Viewfinder: Seekonk Seniors Kick Up Heels at Silver Tea

The annual Silver Tea was the place to be if you were a lady 75-years young.

Nestled into the ballroom of the , a lively group of ladies gathered for their annual "Silver Tea." This delightful program was provided in cooperation with the Department of Human Services. The entertainment for the afternoon was provided by a grant from the , a local agency which is supported by the state-regulated Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Greg Curtis, The Singing Psychotherapist, delighted the ladies as he serinaded many of the ladies with many familiar songs. His program, Songs to Inspire, certainly inspired the ladies to make plans to book him for next year's event.

The Silver Tea began 19 years ago when a group of "Friends of Friends" gathered together with a real silver tea set and invited friends in for lunch. This has grown to an event that drew 100 guests all over 75 years old. This was a sold out event!

The Friends of Friends not only coordinate the event but they raise money to host the event free of charge. The group works to aid seniors with heat and other related problems in cooperation with the department of Human Services.

Besides their special guest, Greg Curtis, two other men were asked to stop by for a brief introduction. David Bowden who is the Chairman of the new Senior Center building project and Jim Reinke from the board stopped by the bring the ladies up-to-date on the status of the new senior center. Reinke explained that the square footage for the new building, was determined by all the various spaces, around town, that is used now for senior programing. They are also designing the building to use passive energy and work with geothermal properties.

The guests ranged from 75 to 98-years-old with a couple of ladies celebrating their 92nd birthday.
