Shoppers Stock Up on Emergency Goods [VIDEO]

Bottles of water, flashlights and batteries were pillaged from Target shelves.

Shoppers were in out in droves Friday afternoon to stock up on emergency items like non-perishable food, water and flashlights to prepare for Hurricane Irene's swath of wind and rain.

One of the most popular destinations: Target on Route 6.

According to employees, flashlights and D batteries were among the pillaged. Another shipment of bottled water is expected to come in at 8 a.m. A drop-off of batteries and flashlights is also expected to come in - though the time is unclear.

Barrington resident Liz Massa bought protein bars and water bottles. If without meat, the bars will act as a nutrition substitute.

"I have no idea what to expect. It would be kind of stupid not to prepare," she said.

Providence residents Gus Medeiros and Kayla Vigeant also were found shopping - but not for emergency items. They bought a Hulk action figure and had no plans on purchasing anything else.

"We live in New England, it's expected," Vigeant said.

Incoming Roger Williams University freshman Connor Warren was a little less at ease. His campus is located next to the water. He's moving in on Saturday, though he is a bit anxious to see what the storm will bring.

"The tides are supposed to be high...Other people are worried too."
