Seekonk Friendly's Spared As Company Closes Multiple Locations

The Massachusetts-based Friendly Ice Cream Corporation announced today that it will shut down 63 of its locations, but that it has spared the .

Friendly's states that 424 restaurants will remain open for business. The 63 to close were reportedly selected after a "thorough analysis of the profitability and contribution" identified those locations as underperforming. The move comes on the heels of the company filing a voluntary petition for bankruptcy this week.

Thirty restaurants in Massachusetts were affected by the move. Other closures include locations in New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Vermont, Maine, New Jersey and Connecticut. Two Rhode Island restaurants — in Wakefield and Warwick — were also closed.
