Scorching Temperatures Drive Ice-Cream Sales

Sundaes saw a surge in business today - employees say the heat drove patrons to the ice-cream stand.

According to employees, the seasonal institution has seen a surge in business today despite the sweltering temperatures. They anticipate tonight's breeze will spike sales. The staple shack draws its patrons by way of a cone-shaped sign and colored umbrellas to shade melting treats.

"Were assuming the night will be busy," said Briana Paulo, an East Providence resident who works at Sundaes in the summer.

The Medeiros family decided to cool off cross the border from East Providence with an assortment of ice-cream choices. Joe Medeiros chose a banana boat. His wife, Anna, and daughter, Nancy, went with the standard fair.

"We got regular ice-cream. In the heat, it hits the spot," said Nancy, a high school senior, noting her mother has been coming to Sundaes for over 20 years.
