Kidz Adventure Cuts: Not Your Old-Fashioned Kid's Barbershop

At Kidz Adventure Cuts, children can play and explore while getting their hair spruced up for spring!

Walking into Kidz Adventure Cuts is like suddenly being on safari. The jungle themed hair salon created just for kids and teens is replete with murals depicting bright trees, exotic birds and even a giraffe. Artificial palm trees abound within the place, as do fake stuffed parrots and other critters.

Located on 1275 Fall River Ave., Kidz Adventure Cuts is just the place to take your child for a back-to-school trim or a new spring hairdo. With services ranging from cuts and highlights to "father/son specials," to a simple wash and blow dry and style, there is something for everyone here.

"The first thing a kid does when they enter the place is choose a video game or movie from our selection that they can watch on their own television while we work on their hair, " says employee Lana Ayotte.

Each station (the seating area where a child can sit and get their hair cut) comes with an individual television and  a choice of red, yellow or blue chairs.

"What we do is get them comfortable with the playstation or the TV, " Ayotte explains. This helps children cope with the boredom and fear that can sometimes accompany a trip the the hair salon.

A little incentive at the end of a haircut never hurts either.

"There are prizes at the end of the haircut," says Ayotte. "We have a treasure box where the kids can pick something they want when it's all over."

A trip to the hairdresser's is not complete without a little something to show for it.

"We do glitter-gel, color-gel, all sorts of cute stuff in their hair," says Ayotte. "They love that stuff, especially the girls. Makes them feel fancy."

There are two other Kidz Adventure Cuts locations, in South Attleboro and in Warwick. They are also themed; the South Attleboro location is a pirate ship, and the Warwick location is space-themed.

"Our other locations we do ear-piercings, highlights, tattoos, paint nails. There's something for everyone," Ayotte expands.

Kidz Adventure Cuts provides extras beyond simple hairdressing to create that "spa" feeling for children who are interested in that.

"We do princess packages and birthday parties. Lots of fun stuff that we do with them. It's definitely designed just for them," says Ayotte.

That's not to say every child who enters the premises is thrilled by the prospect of a hair-cut.

"You get the occasional kid who is really scared, but that happens anywhere," says Ayotte. "For the most part everyone is really good."
