Fresh Catch Closes in Attleboro

The owner says he is closing because the rent and taxes are too high. He would not recommend any businesses come to Attleboro.

A moving van was in front of on Union Street in Attleboro Thursday morning as owner Bill Sarro prepared to close the restaurant after five years. Sarro told Attleboro Patch that he did not renew his lease on the property.

"In these economic times, the tough times we're in, it's not feasible with the rent and the taxes in this city to make it work," Sarro said.

He added, "I wouldn't recommend any business come to this city."

Sarro declined to get into specifics about rent figures.

He said he would be looking for a new restaurant location outside Attleboro, but for now he plans to concentrate his efforts on Fresh Catch's other existing locations, which include Mansfield and North Attleborough.

There have been many successful restaurants in the location over the years. Its seems more likely to me that they couldn't take the competition from Scorpios, Tapas, and Papagallo. Don't blame Attleboro for your failed business.

I'm not going to blame Attleboro but that location stinks. It has been several restaurants over the years but if they were successful they would still be there. That neighborhood is not what it used to be and that is an understatement. Huge companies like Swank are gone and after dark that area is dangerous.

Could not have said it any better! Went there a few times and nothing special for sure.

It has nothing to with "This city". It has to do with the horrible food and service. I ate there once and had a horrible meal, but figured I'd give them a second chance. The second time was worse! Horrible, horrible, food. The store in NA is nowhere near as good as it was when it was Ocean Fresh, no one who works there knows anything about seafood, God forbid you have a question.

FYI~Ocean Fresh is open again for business in the Benny's plaza in Seekonk. It's not a restaurant but you get much fresher seafood than the Fresh Catch in NA.

Like the original ocean fresh? get out

Yep, same family as the original OF. Good riddance Fresh Catch!

I know they had some legal trouble but I NEVER had bad seafood from them and they always could answer my questions.

just an FYI Fresh Catch has a booth at Attleboro Farmers Market every Saturday morning. Lobsters for $7!! super fresh fish! I go every week!

I loved fresh catch in Mansfield, but always felt cheated when I went to Attleboro location...service was poor at best, even when few others in the place the wait was ridiculous. Scorpios or papagallo's has won out every time in recent months...and I love sea food

It's been quite some time since I have been able to afford fresh seafood. The best I can do is recreate "fish stick friday" of my youth.

We've been there twice. First time food was ok, but slow service. Second time my spouse ordered smelts which were really bad and the service was bad. Not surprised they are closing and it has nothing to do with Attleboro.

we need a good seafood restaurant in Attleboro. People will drive miles for fresh seafood, simply prepared, with decent wait staff. We ate at Scorpios last night. Pizza was better than any other pizza in town. They grind their cheese fresh every day. It's attention to details. I'm sorry to see Fresh Catch go but the parting shot of naming Attleboro as a dead end is really low. It leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

I totally agree about the service! The food has been inconsistent at best. I'm floored by the owner's comment: "I wouldn't recommend any business come to this city." I find that appalling!! Seems like Scorpio's, Sangria's and Papagallo are all doing gangbusters...mmmm, sounds like Mr. Sarro is in denial.

I agree the food was over priced and nothing to write home about. Perhaps the little gem "The Clam Shack" sent them packing. It would be great if that gem could move to the Union Street location. I know that would make many of the locals happy.

The service at this restaurant was horrible. Though, I never had a bad meal. I was starting to think it was a money laundering place because no one who worked there seemed to care or could speak English. The last time I was there was over a year ago. I actually had to go looking for our server to get a glass of water. She was sitting in the back with all the other employees. Every one of them was on their phones. They could have had a thriving business at that location if they knew what they were doing. The store in North Attleboro is just as bad.

What a hot-head! I agree with Eva Crowley his 'recommendation' is absolutely uncalled-for. He is just sore because he has had a few bad investments in the last few years and this one probably costed him. He doesn't get the whole "location, location, location" concept; he still holds on to that section on North Main Street in Mansfield and tried to put some ice cream / candy shop in there (FAIL). The only reason he has stayed afloat the last few decades is because of the location of his Fresh Catch on 106 in Mansfield. Bill Sarro go find another town/city to fail in an criticize; Attleboro is doing just fine without you.

I find the Clam Shack Horrible, My fried clams were in a ball with raw batter and clams, the chowder tasted like onions, very little clam flavor. Poor management of fresh catch attleboro caused the failure.
Gretchen Robinson August 31, 2012 at 09:10 PM
there is no excuse for bad mouthing Attleboro. If you're going out of business, do so as a 'class act.' His remarks were sour grapes.
