Computer Problem Blamed For Wrong Tax Bill Sent to Attleboro Business Owners

City Collector Debora Marcoccio is confident it will not happen again.

Attleboro business owners were recently notified by City Hall that they owe more money for last month’s tax bill than was stated due to a computer problem.

According to City Collector Debora Marcoccio, the new tax rate wasn’t applied to the bills. To rectify the problem, a letter was sent out to 928 businesses with this month’s bill stating how much more is owed.

The original rate of $19.61 per $1,000 of value was increased to $20.30 last month.

Marcoccio is confident that this problem will not happen again. “Procedures have been put into place so that after steps have been taken things are checked and rechecked to make sure that the amounts are correct,” she said.

Businesses must send in the remainder of their bills by Feb. 1.

“We’ve addressed the issue and I’ll make every effort to make sure it’s not done incorrectly.”
