Attleboro Mentor Honored for Amazing Work

The United Regional Chamber of Commerce honored Valerie Zagami for her outstanding leadership in the community.

A charming Valerie Zagami lights up a room, not because of her collection of hot-pink flamingos, but her ability to make others smile.

Zagami, a Norton resident, has been making people smile at the ARC of Northern Bristol County since 2005. The ARC, is a non-profit organization located in Attleboro that provides support to more than 2,000 people with developmental disabilities. Zagami has been volunteering her time by offering support and services to people at ARC.

Her tireless effort has earned her the title of Athena Award Recipient, an award given each year to one woman who exemplifies excellence and community service and who actively assists women to reach their full potential.

Not only has Zagami volunteered countless hours of her time to the ARC, but she was also politically active in her former hometown of North Attleboro as a member of the Board of Selectmen, Finance Committee, School Committee and chairwoman of the Parent Teacher Organization. She has also been a DARE volunteer, scout leader, Attleboro Community Council member and United Way of Greater Attleboro/Taunton Community Impact member.

Past award winners including Lisa Nelson, Aide to U.S. Congressman James  McGovern, attended to show their support to their fellow Athena Award winner.
