The Bombardiers Stellar Season Comes to a Close! Bishop Feehan 49-Attleboro 34

It could have been billed as David versus Goliath, the smaller, aggressive, 5th seeded Bombardiers taking on the taller, athletic, 4th seeded Shamrocks.  The rebounding and turn over stats showed a closer game than did the final score, with Feehan pulling down 2 more off the glass than Attleboro and committing just 3 fewer turn overs than the Bombardiers.  As good as their defense was the girls in blue had a difficult time in scoring inside, as many of their shots fell short of the mark.  Attleboro was able to do what only one other team had accomplished this season and that was to hold Feehan under 50 points.

Lauren Donahue opened up the scoring for the Shamrocks with a shot from behind the arc and Beth Clifton got the Bombardiers on the board when she was successful on the first of two free throws.  Lauren Manis upped the Feehan advantage to 4 but a Bri LaPlume basket cut into that lead.  Maddie Jolin was successful but a Sarah Deyo shot inside and a Kerri Beland drive knotted the score at 7-7.  Donahue hit back to back baskets and the low scoring first 8 minutes of play had Feehan in the lead, 11-7.

The Shamrocks opened up the second quarter with an 11 point run, before Beland hit a 3.    A tip pass from Clifton to Deyo drew a roar of approval from both benches but Attleboro could only manage 6 more points before the half ended, with Feehan holding a 27-14 lead.

The 3rd quarter the ball would not drop for the Bombardiers and they were outscored 12-2.  Feehan held a commanding 39-16 advantage.

Kim Runey’s 3 opened the final 8 minutes of play and the two teams matched baskets.  LaPlume scored 7 of her 11 points in the 4th quarter and a 3 basket by Attleboro’s Karissa Hand ended the game.

Bri LaPlume finished her high school career with a double double, scoring 11 and pulling down 10 rebounds, bringing this seasons rebound total to 224 and a career total of 578!  Kim Runey and Kerri Beland each contributed 7 points and Beland added 6 rebounds.

The Bombardiers closed out their season with an impressive 17-7 record, including a first round win in post season play.  Congratulations to Coach Missy Traversi and her team.  Well done!
