Bombardiers Down Rocketeers!

Attleboro pulled off a team double - double, defeating North Attleboro 56-37 and qualifying for MIAA tournament play.

North got into the scoring column first but two free throws by Emily Houle and Bri LaPlume gave Attleboro a 4-3 lead.  The Rocketeers pulled ahead, 5-4, and that was the last time they were to lead in the contest.  Back to back 3’s by Sarah Deyo and Kerri Beland ended the first quarter with Attleboro holding a slim 10-8 lead.

Once again North scored first, in the opening of the second 8 minute segment, but a lay-up by Beland and 2 free throws by Beth Clifton gave the Bombardiers a 16-12 edge.  The Rocketeers managed to tie the score twice, before a basket from behind the arc by Houle and a Beland 2 gave the Bombardiers a 23-20 lead, as the half ended.

A three pointer by North’s Jill Costello knotted the score, as the teams took to the court for the second half.  Attleboro answered the challenge as Houle hit twice from behind the arc and Beland followed with her own 3.  Clifton’s free throw another Beland 3 and 2 from the charity stripe by LaPlume gave Attleboro a 38-31 lead, as the horn signaled the end of the third quarter.

The Bombardiers came out determined, in the final 8 minutes, and scored the first 9 points (4 by LaPlume, 2 by Beland and a 3 by Kim Runey.) The Rocketeers were only able to put 6 points on the scoreboard in the final segment and an additional 6 points by Beland, 2 by Clifton and a free throw by Runey gave Attleboro a commanding 56-37 victory.
