One Woman Play: They Called Me Lizzy

 


This one woman play, produced by East Haddam
Stage Co., tells the story of an African American seamstress, Elizabeth Keckley and her rise from slavery to entrepreneurial freedom, then scandal and decline.
Stephanie Jackson becomes Elizabeth Keckley, dressmaker and confidante of Mary Todd Lincoln and author of "Behind the Scenes: 30 years as a Slave and Four Years in the White House." This is a depiction of slavery from the time of Samuel Clemens (Mark Twain), and is part of Attleboro's Big Read programming focusing on "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer." $10 admission
