Weekend Planner: Get Outside, Walk for A Cause, Hear Great Music

Here are some fun local events that include Ayla Brown, a Relay for Life, and Electric Youth!

Take advantage of these opportunities to get outside, get out with the family or get out with friends. The bottom line is, get out.

  • Relay for Life of Greater Attleboro
    Where/When
    : North Attleboro High School, 1 Wilson Whitty Way, North Attleboro; Friday, June 10, at 6 p.m. through noon on Saturday, June 11
    Why Go
    : Join as the 712 participants and 74 teams celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people will camp out overnight and take turns walking or running around the track or path. The event begins with a survivors lap and each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. This event is fun for the entire family and includes food and entertainment.

  • Lincoln Woods State Park
    Where/When
    : Lincoln Woods State Park, 2 Manchester Print Works Road, Lincoln, RI, open daily
    Why Go: Come enjoy a day at Lincoln Woods! Visitors can enjoy swimming at the fresh water beach, hiking, jogging, fishing, playing ball, horseback riding, or relaxing under a shade tree. The Eastern Mountain Sports kayak school located next to the beach offers canoe and kayak rentals and lessons.   Pricing: Free
  • Electric Youth in Concert
    Where/When
    Showcase Live, 23 Patriot Place, Foxboro; Sunday, June 12, 7 p.m.    
    Why Go: Come see this dynamic ensemble of young singer-dancers backed by an eight-piece band of Boston's finest musicians for an evening of non-stop family entertainment. Electric Youth will perform songs from Queen, Aerosmith and Aretha Franklin and production numbers from "Hairspray" and "Mamma Mia."

  • Purgatory Chasm State Reservation  
    Where/When: Purgatory Chasm, 198 Purgatory Rd., Sutton, MA; Open daily
    Why Go: Purgatory Chasm is a truly unique natural landmark that runs for a quarter of a mile between granite walls rising up to 70 feet! The Chasm is believed to have had its origin during the sudden release of glacial melt water approximately 14,000 years ago. The trails lead to a wide variety of rock formations, with names including the Fat Man's Misery. The reservation includes picnic facilities and a playground.

  • Family Summer Camp at Bass Pro Shop
    Where/When:
    Bass Pro Shop, One Bass Pro Drive, Foxboro, in store from June 4 to July 10  
    Why Go:  
    Come enjoy free summer camp activities for the family at Bass Pro Shop! Workshops and activities are held each Saturday and Sunday from 12-4 and there will be crafts available on Saturday and Sunday from 2-5.  This weekend's craft will be a camping photo frame and workshops include bird watching, camping, shooting, archery, plants and insects and animal indentification.

  • Ayla Brown Performing
    Where/When
    : Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill, 275 Patriot Place, Foxboro; Thursday, June 16, 9:30 p.m.
    Why Go
    : Come see former "American Idol" contestant and country music sensation, Alya Brown, perform at the brand-new Toby Keith's I Love This Bar & Grill! Twenty-two-year-old Ayla Brown of Wrentham is the daughter of U.S Senator Scott Brown and television reporter Gail Huff. Ayla graduated from Boston College, where she played basketball with the Division 1 Lady Eagles. She works as a correspondent on the CBS Early Show and recently moved to Nashville to pursue a career in country music. Ayla's new single, "Goodbye for Good," hit #1 across CDbaby.com's Country Charts.
