South Attleboro Resident Left in the Dark with Few Ways to Communicate

He was without power for five days and shared his frustration with federal, state and local officials.

I was very frustrated for no power for five days (101 hours and 30 minutes).
No power started on Sunday, Aug. 28th at around 9:30 in the morning. No radio, phone, videophone, TTY, door bells, or siren, I can't hear because I am a deaf elder. On Sunday, Aug. 28 the police and rescue came to my house and took me to the emergency room at Sturdy Memorial Hospital because of a chest injury from falling down on the stairs without the power at about 10 a.m. in the morning.  It was darkest in the basement food storage area.

The doctor gave me a prescription for my chest pains, but my pharmacy was closed with no power for four days. No prescription for 4 days. I was very frustrated because of no making or cooking for foods and drinks. I did really miss my fresh hot coffee and toast for breakfast. I was very lonesome because I missed to watch two of three the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox baseball games on television with closed captioned TV and also I did missed to watch the local/nationwide news, sports, and weather on television but no power. I can't go out to any bars to watch the game because I did not drink much and also I was afraid to walk outside with darkest street without the lights.
I felt bad for my roommate Brad, he needs continuous positive airway pressure for sleeping, but no power. He can't sleep in his own bed without oxygen. He had to sit on a lazy chair for four nights.
I wish to have a generator but we can't afford it because of unemployment. We cooked a very few foods on the gas grill but the gas was almost empty but the gas company was closed with no power. I got a mayor's letter from my neighbor and the city said to call 223-2222 for emergency. But how can I call them because I am deaf? I did not have their email addresses but I can used my IPad for emails only because the battery was very low and almost empty.

I was very frustrated because I did send emails via my IPad to U.S. Senators John Kerry and Scott Brown, Governor Deval Patrick, Attleboro Mayor Kevin Dumas, and U.S. President Barack Obama. I was still waiting to hear from them, but no answer during the time with no power for five days.

On Thursday afternoon, September 1st, our power came ON after 3 p.m. We had to remove all the spoiled the meat, poultry, pork, ham and breads that was thrown away to the garbage. It was a waste. We do not have any meats and poultry this weekend and also no cooking this weekend, too.  I can't afford to pay the meats for now until looking for sale prices because we lost over hundreds dollar worth for meats to throw away.
