I know you're upset the Patriots aren't playing in the Super Bowl, but stop claiming you're going to skip the big game. You have to watch, or you aren't an American. Besides, now that your team isn't playing, you can relax and enjoy the party without having to worry about every play. Your blood pressure will rise because of all the snacks, not because of iffy calls by the refs.
The best features of the Super Bowl, in order, are watching the commercials, eating party food, hanging out with friends (just don't talk while the commercials are playing), making ridiculous bets and actually watching the game. Unlike other media members, I'm not going to spoil the commercials for you, it's too late in the week for me to find you friends and I am horrible at giving gambling advice. But I can give you a recipe.
This recipe for buffalo chicken dip comes from Noreen Houlihan-Smith, who submitted it to East Brunswick Patch in New Jersey. It features the great taste of buffalo wings, but you won't get your hands messy while you're eating (don't over-scoop with the chip or you risk dropping some on your shirt while you're eating and becoming "that guy/woman with the stain," and yes everybody is laughing while you aren't looking).
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
- 2 8-ounce packages of cream cheese
- 1 cup Hidden Valley Ranch dressing
- 3/4 cup of Frank's Red Hot Buffalo Wing Sauce
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Boil chicken breasts in water until cooked, about 25 minutes. Drain and let sit until breasts become cool to the touch.
Place a large and deep frying pan on medium heat on the stove and place the cream cheese, ranch dressing and wing sauce into the pan. Stir until completely combined.
Shred the chicken into the mixture, making sure to stir occasionally so the mixture does not congeal. Once the chicken is completely mixed into the sauce, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until sauce thickens.
Remove frying pan from stove and place dip in a crock pot on low heat to keep warm. If you don't have a crock pot, just keep the dip warm in the frying pan until you are ready to serve.
Pour the dip into a bowl, sprinkle on some more cheddar cheese and serve! Dip with scoopable corn chips.
