Memorial Day Weekend Includes Parades, Ceremonies

Among the events will be a ceremony for the addition of 82 names to the Attleboro Honor Roll at the Veterans Memorial Common.

Memorial Day weekend is about more than just barbecues and the beginning of the summer season, it is also a time to honor those who died while defending our nation. Events will take place in Attleboro and Seekonk to recognize these men and women.

Parades will take place in both areas. The Seekonk edition will start Saturday at 10 a.m. at . The route will continue up Newman Avenue to . The local boy scouts will host some festivities behind the middle school and there will be free hot dogs and hamburgers at the  until 3 p.m.

The Attleboro parade will begin Monday at 10 a.m., with the route starting at the old Knights of Columbus Hall building on 2 Hodges St. The path will continue onto Hayward, followed by North Main, Sanford, Bank, Park and finally County toward the destination at . Veterans and dignitaries will be at Capron for a ceremony starting at approximately 11:30 a.m.

There are plenty of other events happening Sunday in Attleboro, including:

  • 8 a.m. - oldest continuous ceremony in Attleboro at Hillside Cemetery on South Main Street
  • 9 a.m - reading of the names of local veterans (30 from World War II, 23 from the Korean War and 29 from the Vietnam War) added to the Attleboro Honor Roll at the Veterans Memorial Common  
  • 10 a.m. - veterans service at , followed by a ceremony at the Grand Army of the Republic Memorial in
  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. - ceremonies at Newell Cemetery on West Street, , the World War II memorial next to  on Washington Street and American Legion Post 312
