The Home Depot Menorah Workshop attracted a diverse crowd of 50 children and adults. Children hammered, painted and decorated their own, eight-branch menorah using lumber donated and cut to size by Home Depot.

Children and parents were greeted by Jim and Greg of the local Home Depot, for a fantastic hour of creating, building, and painting menorahs in all shapes and sizes. Every child was given tools, wood, nails, screws and paint to create and then decorate their very own Menorah.

Home Depot generously sponsored the materials, time and space and the children were welcomed to a host of styles of menorahs. The children were taught about the beauty of the Holiday through a great hands-on experience. Moms and dads got into the fun helping the young ones with their project. The kids got straight to work. There were Airplane menorahs and Home Depot colored ones and everything in-between.

Tzivi Kivman, Director of the Jewish Youth Zone, taught the children the guidelines: All the candles need to be in a straight line, with the Shamash (helper candle) either higher or lower than the other eight.

“As we are all about education, this was a great opportunity to teach children about Chanukah and specifically about menorahs in a fun and hands-on way,” Tzivi said.

Every child left with a snack, a prize from the grand Chanukah quiz, a Jewish Magazine for kids and Candles to light their Menorah – all sponsored by the Chabad Jewish Center in Mansfield.

Rabbi Yossi Kivman announced about the following Chanukah events happening in the area:

  • Tuesday, December 20, at 5:30pm: Menorah Lighting and Magic Show at Mansfield Town Hall.
