Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter Ask for Help to Care for Journey

The Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter is seeking donations to care for Journey, a dog, who they found suffering and in need of medical care.

(A PRESS RELEASE FROM FRIENDS OF ATTLEBORO ANIMAL SHELTER)

Attleboro Animal Control Officer Carolyn Eaton was dispatched to a house in Attleboro recently after a local landlord called to say his tenants moved out and left a sickly looking dog behind.

When Eaton  arrived, what she saw was unimaginable and heart wrenching!. The dog left behind was a severely matted and neglected small dog, believed to be a Shih Tzu. The Shih Tzu, now known as Journey, was immediately brought to New England Animal Medical Center (NEAMC) in West Bridgewater.  The staff at NEAMC stated they never seen a dog in such poor condition as Journey, there were in shock and total disbelief when Journey arrived for care.

As the emergency team at NEAMC prepared to help Journey, they were unable to get thru the mattes to draw blood, his body was completely encased in a shell like casing.  They proceeded to take the next six-eight hours to shave him down slowly, since they were unable to put him under anesthesia for this ordeal.

Journey weighed close to eight-pounds prior to emergency treatment, following his treatment his weight was just about 5-pounds– that was close to three-pounds of matting his petite body was encased in.

He also had mattes surrounding some of his teeth. It was also discovered that Journey is blind and has a grade 4 heart murmur.  In light of all this, Journey continues to amaze us with his zest for life and truly gives nothing but unconditional love.

Friends of Attleboro Animal Shelter is now responsible for the care and well-being of Journey.  He resides in foster care and getting the medical care he needs.  He is on medication for his heart, medication for his eyes and will undergo bloodwork and follow up care with our local Veterinarian, Central Ave Veterinary.

We are reaching out to all our supporters and ask “Please help us, help Journey”.  Your donations make all the difference; please donate to Journey’s care. Checks can be made payable to FAAS PO Box 592 Attleboro MA 02703, please write “Journey” in the memo.
