Fireworks Light Up the Sky in the 'Boro

Continuing the tradition Hayward Field was the place to be for the city's annual fireworks display.

The fields and the parking lots were full and the streets were lined with cars. People arrived by foot and bike. was the place to be for the best seat in the city to watch the sky light up. Spectators watched the 22 minute-show and provided a lot of "oohs and aahs" from the thousands of people who attended Monday night's Independence Day celebration.

There were 362 separate casings ready to be deployed by a computer system ready to light up the sky, according toChief Scott Lachance. 

Atlas Pyrotechnics, of Jaffney, NH was hired to light up the sky for Attleboro and the Attleboro Fire Department stood close by to make sure safety was insured for all who came to watch.

Christina and Mike Hall brought their two children Gabe and Adrian even though it was a little difficult this year for Christine who was in a wheelchair from a recent surgery."These fireworks were the best because they were loud, big and I get to see them every year," Gabe said. 

Bill Harrington watched the Attleboro fireworks display as long as he can remember. It has always been a part of his family's tradition. "It was surprising to see such an amazing display when the economy is so bad" Harrington stated.

The Attleboro Fireworks Committee raised a total of $39,000, $1,000 short of their goal, according to Committee Member Walter Thibodeau. 

While some volunteers continued to seek donations from the crowd to meet their goal, City Councilor Brian Kirby and his daughter Caroline, along with other Attleboro Youth Commission members, stood at the exit to begin the collections for next year's show. The hope is to top this year's show.
