Dedication and Remembrance

Lynn Goodchild of Attleboro and Shawn Nassaney of Pawtucket often traveled across a bridge that connects the two cities to see each other. That bridge now bears the name of the couple, who died in the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

Family members as well as local and state leaders were at the County Street bridge that connects Attleboro to Pawtucket for a Friday morning ceremony that dedicated the structure to the memory of Lynn Goodchild of Attleboro and Shawn Nassaney of Pawtucket.

The couple was headed to Hawaii for a vacation Sept. 11, 2011 when their airplane was hijacked by terrorists and crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center. They were both 25.

A ceremony took place last year for the renaming of the pathway to Lynn Goodchild-Shawn Nassaney 9/11 Remembrance Memorial Bridge. But that was before Gov. Deval Patrick signed the bill for the renaming into law in March.

"We jumped the gun last year a little bit as people in Attleboro often do," said Rep. George Ross, who was behind the legislation for the name change and led the ceremony.

State Sen. James Timilty said, "This beautiful bridge between two wonderful cities bears testament to two individuals who had a wonderful relationship and who sadly perished at the hands of murderous cowards 10 years ago."

He continued, "This is a way for all of us to remember when we go between these two communities about those two individuals and the others who were lost."
