Attleboro's Pools Almost Ready for Summer Splashing

The Attleboro Recreation Department to make a splash on opening day, Wednesday, June 29.

The City of Attleboro Recreation Dept. is hard at work getting the city's four pools ready for opening day.

The big splash will begin at 11 a.m. on June 29, when each of the pools are open for summer swimming.

"We have been gearing up for a couple of weeks and are looking forward to the official opening of pool season," Recreation Department Director Dennis Walsh said. "All four pools will be open at 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for the first week."

Last year, there were nearly 20,000 visits to the four pools, according to Walsh. The majority of visits were to the state-owned on North Avenue. Recreation Department employees were busy filling pools the last few days. In fact, Spatcher was halfway to the full mark Tuesday afternoon.

"The number of patrons, of course, are very weather-dependent," he said. "We are hoping for nice days with not too much humidity."

Having fun while staying cool is number one, but Walsh offered a few safety reminders for those planning to visit the pool.

Lifeguards, who are CPR, first-aid and life-guarding certified, will be on duty at each of the pools during all hours they are open.

"With respect to safety we trust that all patrons will follow the rules as outlined at the pools," Walsh said. "If not, guards have the authority to discipline up to and including recanting passes.

"Folks should reminded that they should never swim alone."

For those residents who are interested in swim lessons, the Recreation Department will begin those on Tuesday, July 5. A second session is slated to begin July 18 and the final session, August 1.

Along with gearing up for fun at the pools, the Attleboro Recreation Department is also asking residents to join them at the  at 420 Oakhill Ave from 9 to 11:30 a.m. on the Fourth of July for the city's annual "Kidz 4th Fun."

The day will include a cookout, music and lots of free family-oriented games including a potato sack race, three-legged race, jelly bean on a spoon race, Sponge Bob race and more, according to Walsh.

"The highlight is the annual bike parade, in which children parade around the facility in the bicycles decorated in the spirit of the Fourth of July," he said. "We look forward to a safe, happy and healthy summer."
