Attleboro Road Construction: What Projects are in the Works?

Where on state roads can you expect to sit in traffic in the weeks, months (and even years) ahead?

The construction at the ramp connecting Route 295 Northbound to Route 95 Northbound this week isn't the only construction happening along major roads in Attleboro - and there is plenty more to come.

According to the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, two other state road construction projects are under way and another five are in the works.

Incase you haven't noticed, state projects already under way include the Olive St. bridge and the Bungay River bridge on North Main St. in addition to Routes 295 and 95.

But, where can you expect to sit in traffic in the weeks, months (and even years) ahead so you can plan your alternate routes to work?

  • According to MassDot, Phase II of construction to Tiffany St. from Route 123 to New Rd. is in its design phase. Work consists of box cut widening, milling and overlay. Traffic signals upgrading is also proposed at the Route 123 intersection. Sidewalks will be installed and drainage will be improved. The project, funded by the 2013 Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) for the Southeastern Massachusetts Metropolitan Planning Organization, will have an estimated cost of $3.1 Million. Expect construction to start this fall.
  • Another Attleboro project in the design phase includes bridge cleaning and painting over Route 295 in Attleboro and North Attleborough. The $6.1 Million project likely won't start until the summer of 2019, according to MassDot.
  • In the preliminary design phase is a project to preserve the Route 95 bridge over North Avenue. The estimated $14.4 Million project is currently slated for the winter of 2018-2019.
  • Next spring, expect construction on the ramp between Route 95 South and Route 295 South to help prevent truck rollovers. MassDOT's estimated cost is $4.1 Million.
