Area Residents Shoot Back at Cancer

Police officers and firefighters help to support women battling cancer.

The American Firearms School in North Attleboro, in collaboration with a local organization, helped to raise $9,000 through its Shoot Back at Cancer event to benefit the Pink Heals Saturday afternoon. The Pink Heals is a Rhode Island-based fundraising organization, made up of police officers and firefighters, that helps to raise awareness and support for women with cancer.

Cancer survivors including Nannette Gallagher and Patricia Abbruzzese along with Georgia Woods of East Providence, RI, who is still battling the disease, took their turn at pulling the trigger to shoot at a pink target with "cancer" written all over it.

Also featured at the event were a pink fire truck and police car with the names of thousands of people who battled or lost their battle to the deadly disease.

"Every dollar they raise goes right back into the community, helping women with their expenses, while fighting cancer," said Matthew Medeiros, general manager at the North Attleboro firearms school.
