All Hands Needed to Fold the Special Patriot Flag

The Patriot Flag was a last-minute addition, but it gave many people an opportunity to reflect on what the stars and stripes of the flag signify.

It took several sets of hands to properly fold the Patriot Flag, a flag draped from the Attleboro Fire Department ladder truck during the Independence Day celebration in Attleboro Monday night.

was scheduled to be flown in Boston for the Fourth of July festivities there, but when those plans fell through, Sgt. Thomas Middleton, whose wife is from Mansfield, knew that Attleboro would be the perfect place to display the Fourth of July flag.

With a few phone calls the plan was made between Middleton and to display the flag in Attleboro.

Middleton is the regional coordinator for the northeast's 50 state journey for the special flag, which represents the unity of the nation as people reflect back to 9/11. This flag represents the resolve of Americans and our desire to live free and to convey the message that we will always stand together as a nation," Middleton said.

The Patriot Flag is accompanied by Mitch Mender, president of World Memorial, and Lt. Joe Torrillo from the New York City Fire Department, a survivor of the terrorist attack at the World Trade Center.

The Flag was hoisted on to one of the Attleboro Fire Department ladder trucks. The flag, which weighs 70 pounds and is 30x56 feet, has been flown in 144 cities and and will complete it's 50 States in 50 Weeks tour on August 8 in South Dakota.
