Grace Baptist Christian Academy Hoop Squads Swept by South Merrimack

The boys’ and girls’ basketball teams of Grace Baptist Christian Academy of Attleboro suffered setbacks Tuesday in non-league outings against South Merrimack Christian Academy of Merrimack, N.H., at the Mansfield SportsPlex.

          The Centurions’ boys’ squad dropped a 55-47 decision to drop to 1-1 on the season, while the girls’ combine fell by a 46-20 margin to fall to 0-2.

          In the boys’ contest, GBCA owned a two-point lead at halftime, but wilted in the second half as SMCA scored 35 points. Nate Corkum topped the Centurions with 13 points, while Bryan Simet and Shyheem Shorey both contributed 11 points and Connor McLernon added 8 points.

          In the girls’ matchup, SMCA rolled to a 30-8 advantage by halftime and never looked back. Emily Dutton (12) and Kelly Nichols (8) accounted for all GBCA points.
