Grace Baptist Christian Academy Boys’ Basketball Team Ends Season With Loss in Region Tournament

The boys’ basketball team of Grace Baptist Christian Academy of Attleboro concluded its 2013-14 season Tuesday on a losing note, dropping a 62-44 decision to Stedfast Christian Academy of Groton, Conn., in a quarterfinal-round game of the Region Tournament of the New England Association of Christian Schools played at the Twin City Christian School of Lunenburg.

Stedfast extended a four-point lead (13-9) after one quarter to an 18-point bulge (32-14) at halftime and held off a second-half flurry by the Centurions. GBCA ended its campaign with a 10-7 record.

Stedfast disrupted GBCA with full-court pressure and forced 23 Centurion turnovers in the contest.

“We came out flat and we really didn’t play well in the first half,” said GBCA Coach Jeff Bailey. “We played a much better second half, but never caught up.”

Senior Lee Nichols topped the Centurions with 14 points, including four three-point baskets, and senior Nate Corkum added 10 points. Bryan Pacheco contributed 9 points.
