Revolutionary War Reeanctors Visit Oldtown Church on their March To Boston
Step back in time on Tuesday, December 4th, as First Congregational Church also known as Oldtown Church at 675 Old Post Road in North Attleboro, MA hosts a reenactment group know as “America’s March to Yorktown” (AMTY) as they “March” from Providence to Boston as French soldiers did in 1782 after their victory over British General Cornwallis in Yorktown, VA. This “March” along the new Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail, commemorates the 230th anniversary of Expédition Particulière – the codename given to the French expeditionary army sent during 1780 to 1782 to support the American War of Independence.
First Congregational Church is proud to host the AMTY as they stop for the night for a warm meal and to give a talk to all who are interested in this part of our history, right in our own backyard.
Please join us for a Pot Luck Supper at 6pm (please bring something to share), followed by a history discussion with these dedicated and impressive reenactors at 7pm. Come hear about their 2006 “March” when they marched the entire 700+ mile journey of the French Army under General Rochambeau, from Newport, RI to Yorktown, PA, using French records and maps as their guide.
For more background and information on the route and the organization, visit: http://www.w3r-us.org For questions about the Pot Luck Supper and the history discussion, please contact Cory Strandson at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 508-287-1088.
