More About National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette
The National Shrine of Our Lady of La Salette, known by many locals simply as La Salette, consists of a monastery, church, retreat center, chapel of light and welcome center. There are 24 Fathers, Brothers and Sisters who lead La Salette's mission to provide a fix to what is broken in the world by combining the values of ecumenism, peace and justice. The shrine itself and sacred grounds provide a peaceful place for pilgrims to reconcile with God through prayer. On any given day individuals, seeking reconciliation from God, themselves and others, can be found at the shrine in prayer. The Christmas Festival of lights is a popular time and a tradition for more than 50 years. Each year from Thanksgiving day to Jan.2, 500,000 people visit the shrine to pray and see the 350,000 lights adorned across the shrine's 10 acre-grounds. The admission and parking is free, but the shrine welcomes donations to help with the electric bill. Some visit to attend the 60 planned Christmas concerts. Others come solely to pray on their knees at each step of the 28 "Holy Stairs". Others say the rosary around Rosary Pond, complete with waterfalls and lights. For those praying to God for their own healing and healing of others, there is the Chapel of Light where a candle is lit for the Virgin Mary to intercede. The shrine has a gift shop, bistro and is fully wheelchair accessible.

Went last night! It is a sight to see, we had hot chocolate, lite a candle for family and friends 2 and 4 legged, walked the Rosary Pond, sat in on service, lots of people and just a peaceful easy feeling walking around. Everyone should experience the Wonder at LaSalette at Christmas time!
