Some of you may have been disappointed (or delighted) my byline was a rare sighting last week on Attleboro Patch. The reason for the scarcity is because my girlfriend Pammy and I were in Pompano Beach, Fla. visiting my family, including my 1-year-old nephew Lev (look at the pictures, isn't he adorable?). More than 150 photos were submitted to the Attleboro Winter Storm Through the Eyes of Residents Contest, but there could only be one winner. There were photos of kids at play, winter city street scenes and snowmen. One photo, however, stood out from the rest, according to professional photographer and judge, Jen Osojnicki. The photo of Emily Antonik taking air while sledding at Highland Country Club stood out from the more than 100 photos. For some, the thought of snow is exciting. It's fun to wake up to a blanket of untouched white stuff. For the kids, it's a day off from school, a reason to act silly and make snow angels, build snowmen and find the steepest hill on which to sled. This storm has already left me with several memories to share and it's not even noon yet. You would think it was Christmas morning by the way my children came screaming into our bedroom with excitement to tell us a tree had fallen on daddy's car. This is the time of year when my kids want to lace up their skates and hit the ice for some family fun. Skating was far from my mind until about a month ago when we watched a group of men at Patriot Place set up and flood the Winter Skate rink outside Gillette Stadium. We knew it would be just days before it was ready. And when it was, we didn't hesitate to get on the ice.
