We had a BBQ chicken with onions this week at Scorpio's Restaurant in Attleboro and it was fabulous. Smokey flavor, lots of cheese and chunks of chicken, just a little bite to it. Side salad was terrific, too, no iceberg lettuce is served there.   more ›

Park Street Pizza a Product of Patience

Co-owner Chris Pennisi shares the restaurant's story.

Chris Pennisi and Paul Albrecht opened Park Street Pizza four years ago, and Pennisi said it was a childhood dream come true. "My buddy and I worked in pizza shops when we were younger and we decided to open our own," Pennisi said. They worked at the Sharon House of Pizza for years as children. Pennisi moved on to work in other fields, but Albrecht stayed to learn the trade. "He moved to a new place they opened up across the street," Pennisi said. "It was the same owners, but a more upscale pizza place, like a step up from a typical sub shop. He stayed there for 15 years managing the place." Pennisi said Albrecht's persistence helped get them off the ground. "He just kept asking, 'When are we going to start our own place?'" he said. …

Regional Business Roundup: Way Past Pizza, Fitness Reconstruction and an Uncerain Dodge

A smattering of business news in the region.

Attleboro    Pizzeria DeMarco Offers More Than Pizza  Adel Fitian has been in the restaurant business for more than 20 years, and he's bringing that experience to Pizzeria DeMarco in Attleboro. Fitian said the restaurant works mainly on word of mouth from his customers. He said the location itself isn't all that great, kind of out of the way from the main center of Attleboro, but after being there 10 years, he has made it work. "I'm really kind of hidden here," he said. "A lot of my business comes from word of mouth. People try it and they spread the word. I always get people coming in who say, 'Oh I tried your food at my friend's house and now here I am. It works really well when I do catering, when a big group of people try the food. …

Jonathan Celebration!

May 11 marks the fourth anniversary of Jonathan's Coffee Cafe and the 28th birthday of co-operator Jonathan Friedman.

There was a small celebration Friday at Jonathan's Coffee Cafe, which in its short existence has become one of the major daytime social scenes in Attleboro. The Union Street business marked its fourth anniversary and Jonathan Friedman, who operates the place with his mother Ann, enjoyed his 28th birthday. Both milestones actually fell on the next day (May 11), but were recognized Friday since Jonathan's is closed on the weekend. "Who do I see about getting the last four years of my life back?" said Jonathan Friedman (semi-jokingly ... we think), when asked by Attleboro Patch for a statement about the anniversary and his birthday.  Jonathan's Coffee Cafe is located at 68 Union St. It is open Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. …

Is Massachusetts Bad for Business?

Results from a recent executive survey ranked Massachusetts 47th for business.

A CEO magazine ranks Massachusetts as one of the worst states in the nation for business. Chief Executive Magazine ranked Massachusetts 47th based on a survey of corporate leaders. Survey respondents reported the Bay State is one of the worst for taxation and regulation. The state Republican Party is pointing to the survey and saying that Gov. Deval Patrick and the Democratic-led Legislature are bad for the economy and business. What do you think about Massachusetts’ business climate? Is this a good state in which to do business?
